So as a parent I'm always trying to teach real life lessons to my little girl, ally. So today's lesson was:
How to Fundraise For School Grade K
The first time we did this Ally sold the MOST in the entire Kindergarten of her school.
Yep… #1
Now the main goal I wanted to share with her was confidence in front of the camera and that there is the difference from selling online vs offline. She did 90% of her fundraising offline with her grandparents but 10% did come from online sales.
See how ally did in her fundraiser in Kindergarten which took home #1 in her grade

How to Fundraise For School Grade 1
So in this year I wanted to increase her knowledge of how to sell on video since I do it all the time. Here were some of the guidelines I wanted for her to remember:
- People are not buying cookies because they like it or because it's cheap. They are buying it because of YOU, ally. She started to get the idea that she won #1 last year because she was the difference. Not because she sold something different. Well, it call came down to WHO she knew and she knew grandpa and daddy. Grandpa is well networked offline and daddy is online π
- People are more willing to buy IF you give them a reason to. Her reason this year is to help pay for the projectors as the school has gone through budget cuts.
- Tell people who you are and let them really like you. I tried to give her better pace and keep her timing down.
- She wanted to tell everyone the price and even on one shot she wanted to say “We have a lot of things and it's FREE!”. I'm like that would be great if you wanted exposure but we need the money ally!
I believe my lovely daughter getting a grasp of learning how to fundraise like a pro.
Eye contact, purpose, confidence, connect with viewer, and thanking people for their time.
She actually asked me: “Daddy, how come you can do videos so easily without mistakes?”
My response was simple – “I do a LOT of them” π
I think she's getting the hang of learning how to fundraise like her grandfather (routinely pulls in huge lots for charities in the Houston Area).
Thanks for your time in seeing how I plan to instill real life skills in my kids and by all means if you wish to buy some Delicious cookies to help pay for projectors for our school Click the Link Below:
Hey LT Great lesson to teach your daughter. I have a 2 daughters and should use these techniques. What is your YouTube Channel so I can subscribe?
youtube channel is teachingmlm
i can’t directlink as my work has youtube blocked.
it’s great to be able to learn new things and groom our kids… it’s free training that will shape their future for the better.
She did a GREAT JOB!!! She has made real progress from last year. Good for her! I wish I could do as well. She will be my inspiration to get started with videos.
I have a free service to do video emails; I need to get started.
How do I find your YouTube channel? All I know about YouTube is how to click on a link someone sends to me, and how to click the ‘related’ links shown at that YouTube site.
my channel is “teachingmlm”.
yeah it’s not hard. there is the LINK and then there is the EMBED
i’m not using youtube here. I’m using easy video player with amazon s3 and viddler for these 2 videos.
thanks and she’s getting so much better as I groom her π
Hey Lawrence,
She’s adorable – i definitely agree with the point that people are giving money because of HER and not because of cookies or whatever else might be sold. She created that personal connection by creating that genuine video and that’s what makes the difference between a successful fundraiser and one that’s not so successful – it’s all about the personal connection that’s created.
Great stuff π
yeah. i wanted to teach this principle to my daughter. 2 years running she has sold the most in our grade all because people want to buy from HER not so much what she is selling.
if only people in business who are in direct sales or network marketing could understand this ….
